Bereavement Carers

Our three parishes, St Mary's and St Joseph’s, St Mark's and Grovehill & Highfield now have a Bereavement Carer Group.

The Carers will visit people who have been bereaved.  The visits are undertaken six to eight weeks following the death of a relative, partner or friend.

The Carers have undergone training for this role and will be supervised by a qualified supervisor.  They will be working to The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy Ethics; confidentiality is part of these ethics.  They will initially offer between 6 and 8 sessions (or more by negotiation) in the home of the bereaved or another venue if preferred.

Fr John or Fr Voytek will give an information leaflet to the bereaved which can be followed up, if wished, by ringing either of the priests.  They will then make contact with a co-ordinator who has been specially trained for this role.

The co-ordinator will call to arrange a visit.  Following this visit a carefully chosen bereavement carer will arrange with the bereaved a convenient time and place for the sessions to commence.

All of the people involved in Bereavement Caring are trained volunteers and there is no charge for this service.
