4th Boxmoor (St Mary & St Joseph) Scout Group

4th Boxmoor - Latest News

With such a wide range of activities on offer, it is impossible to report on everything that we do. There are, however, some highlights of our activities over the more recent years:

District Champions

4th Boxmoor have been crowned champions of Hemel Hempstead District in a host of activities recently, including Swimming, Chess, 5-a-side Football, Pinewood Derby and Raft Racing.

International Friendship Award

4th Boxmoor are currently working towards the International Friendship Award, in which all three sections are actively participating. We have recently increased our list of International Contacts and now receive regular emails and letters from Scouts in dozens of different countries including Hong Kong, Uganda, Brazil, Italy, Sweden, Romania and Holland and even made contact with an ex-Service Scout circling the Antarctic with the Royal Navy!

In 2002, our Scout section hosted the 10th Hong Kong Scout Troop at our Annual Summer Camp in the New Forest and spent several days living, working and playing with a Scout Troop who had travelled from the other side of the planet to visit the United Kingdom for a 13-day expedition.

Our project for this Summer will include exchanging Scarves and Badges with as many International Contacts as possible and we will also be working closely with the Parish Youth by promoting "Fair Trade" (www.fairtrade.org.uk). By selling Fair Trade refreshments and gifts at our monthly Coffee Mornings we hope to make a positive difference to the lives of some of our new Global friends. Please come and see us in the Parish Centre after the 9am Mass on the second Sunday of each month.

We hope to culminate this project with a Group visit to the 2007 World Jamboree where we will have the unique opportunity to meet our contacts after having written to them for over a year, exchanging stories and gifts.

2007 World Jamboree

Scouting was founded in 1907 and is fast-approaching its 100th Birthday.  To celebrate, the Annual World Jamboree is returning to its roots in the UK.  The 2007 Annual World Jamboree will be held in Chelmsford with Scouts from over 200 countries expected to take part.  For the first time in its history, 4th Boxmoor will be sending one of its Troop members to the World Jamboree as part of the 10-strong District Contingent.  This is a great honour and, whilst heavy fundraising will be needed, the World Jamboree will certainly be the experience of a lifetime!

Long Service Awards

Two of the Group’s Leadership Team have recently been awarded Long Service Awards for completing 15 years as Warranted Leaders.  Pete and Sue West, who received their awards recently, also both hold the Chief Scout’s Commendation.
