To get there from the M1
Take Exit 8 off the M1, marked to Hemel Hempstead.
You will find yourself on a broad dual carriageway for two or three miles. You cross over four roundabouts, and then find yourself going down a fairly steep hill.
At the bottom of the hill is a large roundabout, known locally as The Magic Roundabout because you can go round it both ways ie traffic flows around it both clockwise and anti-clockwise. I recommend that you go clockwise. Take the third road off to the left, which is Station Road.
A few yards along Station Road there are two right turns, each with a traffic filter. Take the second of these turns (in front of an open grass area with the war memorial). This is St John’s Road. Follow the road past the Sports Centre on the right and the Anglican Church on the left, along the side of our beautiful common, for about half a mile. At the end of the common you find the Catholic Church at the corner of Wharf Road and St John’s Road.
To get there from the M25/A41
Come off the M25 at junction 20, and take the A41 signposted to Aylesbury. Approximately four miles later, take the Hemel Hempstead exit off the A41. This takes you on to a fairly steep road downhill towards some traffic lights. Filter left at the traffic lights and drive along London Road, which brings you to a roundabout. Bear left. You will shortly pass the BR station on your left, and immediately find yourself at another roundabout. Turn right here on to Fishery Road which takes you over the canal and up to yet another roundabout, where you turn right on to St Johns Rd and drive through the village for about half a mile and you will find the Three Blackbirds is on your left and the Church on your right.
